Floor Warden Program

A trained emergency team can make a significant difference in the success of a fire-response plan.  Floor Wardens are assigned to each floor or department within a building to help ensure that all are aware of an emergency situation and facilitate appropriate staff response.

UCSF Health offers monthly Floor Warden training rotating at Mission Bay, Mount Zion, and Parnassus that covers the following topics:

  • Floor warden responsibilities during a fire alarm
  • R.A.C.E.
  • Building fire/life safety features
  • Fire triangle
  • Types of fires
  • P.A.S.S.
  • Hands-on fire extinguisher simulator training

Although the training focuses on Floor Warden duties in the ambulatory clinic setting, staff working in the hospital environment and administrative buildings are also encouraged to attend.  To view upcoming training dates or to register, enter your name as a Floor Warden in your department's Emergency Action Plan (EAP).  You will then receive an invitation to participate in an annual 50-minute training session.  There are six training opportunities every year.
