UCSF Health Surveillance Program

UCSF Health provides a safe and functional environment and through proactive surveillance activities ensures that the environment is constructed, arranged, and maintained to foster patient and employee safety. All departments participate in the surveillance program and mitigate risk of harm through development and execution of timely corrective action plans.

The UCSF Health Surveillance Program monitors conditions in the environment to recognize and address workplace hazards, and to ensure that the organization meets all regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Surveillance rounds are conducted in all patient-care units and areas that directly support patient care.  These rounds are scheduled continously throughout the year to monitor the total environment of care, including but not limited to fire and life safety, injury prevention, and emergency preparedness.  These regular surveillance activities enable UCSF Health to routinely review workflows and implement best practices as necessary.
