Great ShakeOut Instructions

Instructions:

UCSF Health is proud to participate in the worldwide Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill on Thursday October 19, 2023 at 10:19 AM and 7:30 PM. During the drill, staff are encouraged to participate in activities that will keep themselves, their coworkers, patients, visitors, vendors, and the greater UCSF Health community safe during an actual earthquake situation. Earthquakes pose the largest risk to UCSF Health and its staff, patients, and community, and participation in this drill will make us all better prepared for a real-world earthquake!

This drill gives us an opportunity to practice:

-    Drop, Cover, Hold!

-    Using our Departmental Emergency Action Plans (DEAPs)

-    Test our Emergency Communications methods

During the drill:

DROP: where you are onto your hands and knees

COVER: your head and neck with one arm and hand. Then crawl underneath a table or desk for additional shelter. If there is no desk or table near you, crawl next to a wall, away from windows. Stay on your knees and bend over to protect your vital organs.

HOLD ON: to your shelter with one hand. Keep covering your head/neck with your other hand. If there is no desk or table, cover your head and neck with both your arms/hands. Stay on your knees and bend over to protect your vital organs.

Once the shaking stops, get a to a safe location.
